The official American Heart Association and American Stroke Association blog for Southern New England. We are part of the national health organization whose mission is building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

Our Priorities in Southern New England

Building a Culture of Health: To improve the overall heart health of Southern New Englanders, we are working to create an environment where the healthy choice is the easy choice.

Childhood Obesity Epidemic: Nearly one in three children and teens in the United States is overweight or obese. We will help lead efforts to ensure that children and families have access to healthy foods and kids get 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

CPR in Schools: We are working to ensure that all high school students receive quality CPR training prior to graduation.

Spreading Awareness with the FAST Stroke Warning Signs: We will promote stroke awareness using F.A.S.T., an easy way to remember the sudden signs of stroke. By educating the community to spot the signs and call 9-1-1 for help right away, we can reduce death and disability.

Support Research: We will work to increase the number of scientific research grant applications in Southern New England and continue funding vital cardiovascular and stroke research.

Tobacco Control: We will champion evidence-based policies aimed at preventing youth smoking and tobacco use and helping current smokers quit the deadly habit.
