(Clinical Cardiologist and American Heart Association Southern New England Board President Dr. Jennifer Jarbeau and her daughter Madeleine attended the first STEM Goes Red Event in Providence. Below is what Dr. Jarbeau thought of the event, in her own words.)
“My daughter and I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural STEM Goes Red event for young girls. This was an amazing opportunity for these middle school girls to explore what opportunities in STEM are available to them, while at the same time meeting female mentors in the STEM field. After hearing inspiring stories from NASA scientist, Kim Arcand, along with other female leaders in the STEM field, the girls realized that STEM is a realistic career for them despite the perception that mostly men pursue such jobs. By encouraging women to pursue careers in the STEM fields, we will help foster innovation and new ideas to combat heart disease and stroke thereby making our communities healthier. Whether it’s unlocking the mysteries of the space, science, or medicine, the possibilities now seem limitless for these young women.”
